Five IU basketball players were suspended without explanation. What is known is as follows:

Before Tuesday night's game at Northwestern, Indiana University men's basketball coach Mike Woodson suspended five players: starters Xavier Johnson and Parker Stewart, as well as reserves Tamar Bates, Khristian Lander, and Michael Durr.

59-51, the Hoosiers' short-handed loss. They are 7-6 in Big Ten Conference play and 16-7 overall

Why were the five IU basketball players banned?

Woodson did not specify the reasons for the players' suspensions. The players sat on the bench in their uniforms, an unusual move.

(1)Regarding the suspensions, Woodson, who played for legendary IU coach Bob Knight, stated the following:

"I'm establishing a culture here." I'm not here to play with guys who won't do what I ask of them. They must leave if they do not want to. I want to bring players here who will proudly wear that uniform and perform all necessary tasks, both on and off the court.
I won't provide you with all of the internal explanations for their suspensions. They were punished for breaking the rules. If we are going to be a team, you have to set rules that everyone on the team has to follow."

Who was suspended by Mike Woodson?
IU's first 22 games were started by Xavier Johnson, who averaged 10.6 points and a team-leading 4.7 assists per game.

Parker Stewart has started 21 games for the Hoosiers and made 41 of the team's 41 three-pointers with 45.1% accuracy. He scores 6.9% on the year.

Tamar Bates had played in 21 games, scoring 4.0 points and averaging 15.4 minutes per game.

Michael Durr, a reserve post player, has appeared in 19 games and averaged 2.2 points.

The Indiana–Purdue

The Indiana University Bloomington Hoosiers and Purdue University Boilermakers, Indiana's two flagship public universities, compete in the Indiana–Purdue rivalry. It is regarded as one of the most intense college rivalries in the United States, as well as one of the Big Ten Conference's strongest and most closely followed rivalries. Newsweek ranked it as one of the top 12 college sports rivalries, and Huffington Post ranked it as the fifth best rivalry overall.

Indiana's intense love of basketball adds to the intensity of the rivalry (see Hoosier Hysteria). There are thousands of students enrolled at both universities; In contrast to IU Bloomington, which is in the southern part of the state and primarily focuses on liberal arts, business, and music, Purdue is a land-grant research university in the northern part of Indiana. Purdue has traditionally focused on engineering, agriculture, and technology. However, there is a wide range of academic programs available at both institutions. Purdue is a founding member of the Big Ten Conference, and both universities have been members of the Big Ten for over 100 years, ensuring annual competition across all sports and adding implications for conference standings to the rivalry.
